Hey there! Welcome to Pokemon Inferno's Scanline Tutorial. Here you can learn how to make scan lines like the ones in the banner above. They're actually quite easy to make. Just follow these guidelines and you'll have scanlines on your artwork in no time! ;) Here's a list of thing you'll need.
- Photoshop
Step 1:
Open up Photoshop and make a new file that's 5x5 pixels size. Make sure the file you make is transparent.

Step 2:
Now that you've created the new file zoom in all the way using the zoom tool.

You should now have have an image on the screen similar to this one below.

Step 3: Making the Scanline
Now select the pencil tool
and set it to one pixel in size. This is where you pick what color you want your scanlines. I'm going to use black for this tutorial, but you can use any color you'd like. You have to draw a diagonal line across the image with the pencil tool. Also it doesn't matter what direction you draw the line. You should now be at the image below.
Step 4: Saving the Scanline
Now it's time to save the image as a pattern. To do this go to Edit-->Define Pattern.

Click on Define Pattern and then another the image below should pop up. You can save the pattern under whatever name you'd like. For the tutorial I'll save it as Scanline Black Diagonal.

Step 5: Using the Scanline!!
Now that you've made and saved your scan line here's how to use it. Open up the image you want to use it on. Go to Edit-->Fill.

Then click on fill. When you click it, this little menu below should pop up. Select Pattern as what you're using and then click on custom pattern. There should be a couple of patterns there already.(ex. Bubbles, Checkered, and so on). Select the Scanline pattern you just saved ans put the mode on Overlay. You can change the opacity of the scanlines if desired. Click OK and you're done! You should have Scanlines on your image now.

Here's an example of what your image should look like with the Scanlines. Remember you can put your scanlines in any color or any direction as desired. If you desire to have smaller scanlines just make the file 3x3 instead of 5x5. I hope this guide was helpful to you and hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions or comments regarding this tutorial email me at richy_feliciano@yahoo.com. Thanks for reading!
